2016 “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session Series No. 25 held

25th “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session April 20, 2016

Professor Ikeda joined us for our 25th “Find-Your-Role-Model” session. He is an assistant professor in the Cancer Center here at TMDU. He graduated from Hokkaido University School of Medicine, and after graduation did his residency and fellowship in surgery at St. Luke’s International Hospital, Tokyo. Then, he went on to become a research fellow of Cardiology at Children’s Hospital Boston / Harvard Medical School. After that he did a U.S.A. residency at Beth Israel Medical Center, fellowship in The University of Michigan, and served as an assistant clinical professor in the department of Hematology / Oncology at University of California, San Diego.

There was a lively discussion about his career path, the differences between Japan and U.S. residencies, and the advantages of doing research before working as a physician. He also mentioned about the way for Japanese doctors to work in the U.S. in consideration of age, position, and character. It was impressive that he thinks if we want to take an exceptional way, there will be a way to do so. This was a valuable session because he gave us a lot of advice, which will help us create a better view of our future career paths.
