2016 “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session Series No. 27 held

27th “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session July 12, 2016

In the 27th “Find-Your-Role-Model session”, we welcomed Dr. Gerald Hsu, M.D., PhD., Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Dr. Hsu graduated from Duke University, School of Medicine; where he also received a PhD in Biochemistry. He did his Internship Residency, and Chief Residency at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston; followed by his Fellowship at UCSF in Medical Oncology. In addition, before accepting his current position at UCSF he was also an instructor at Harvard University School of Medicine.

In the beginning of this session, Dr. Hsu told us about Brigham & Women’s Hospital and also shared his career pathway. He also shared important lessons he learned during his university days and after graduation; for example, always get out of your comfort zone in order to grow. Moreover, Dr. Hsu also told us about studying medicine in the U.S, how to prepare for the licensing examinations, and also ways not to be over-shadowed by the American medical students for those of us who will have a chance to do a clinical clerkship in the US in the future. He also gave a little review about the health system in the US. Lastly, Dr. Hsu gave advice about how to choose our specialty, how to manage our time and also how to improve oneself to become a good and successful doctor in the future.
