2016 “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session Series No. 29 held

29th “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session November 1, 2016

In the 29th “Find-Your-Role-Model session”, we welcomed Dr. Akiko Matsumoto, an alumna of TMDU. After graduation she worked as Neurologist, joined the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) and went on to acquire a master's degree in aerospace medicine at Wright State University in the U.S.A. Afterwards, she joined JAXA as a Flight surgeon and has supported a number of manned space missions, including those with astronauts Naoko Yamazaki, Koichi Wakata, and Kimiya Yui, MD (flight crew surgeon). Currently, she was involved in the medical and psychological support of astronaut Takuya Onishi during his stay in the International Space Station, and holds a chair position in the International Working Group concerning space medicine.
In this session, she shared a lot of activities in the field of space science and technology, talking about her career pathway and experiences as a flight surgeon. In addition, she shared her insights about important lessons to work in aerospace domain and gave gentle advices to the listeners who want to work as a flight surgeon or an astronaut as future careers. This session was a fruitful and dreamlike opportunity to expose us to space-related activities.
