2016 “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session Series No. 33 held

33rd “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session February 2, 2017

In the 33rd "Find-Your-Role-Model Session" on February 2nd, we welcomed Dr. Joel Katz, an infectious diseases specialist, Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, Vice Chair for Education at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School.

In this session, Dr. Katz talked about how he utilizes his previous work as a commercial designer and his interest in art in his current career as a doctor and educator, which was truly eye opening. He shared his work in the Arts and Humanities Initiative at Harvard Medical School, which combines integrating the study of fine arts and medicine. For example, he discussed one course where he helps students hone their physical diagnostic abilities through an observation of exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Dr. Katz also talked about how he balances his career as a researcher and a physician and described the residency program at Brigham and Women's Hospital. His lessons about maintaining a focus on work while keeping quality private time truly inspired the audience.
