2017 “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session Series No. 34 held

34th “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session June 21, 2017

On June 21st, in the first FYRM session of academic year 2017, we welcomed Dr. Jun Sasaki and Dr. Nao Sasaki, both TMDU alumni who are working as physician representatives at Nicklaus Children’s hospital. Participants actively asked a lot of questions and were happy to have the great opportunity to listen to the various experiences of and advice given by Drs. Sasaki. They compared the differences between Japan and the US regarding the situations of medicine, the attitudes of medical students, and other aspects of living in a foreign country. Especially, Dr. Nao Sasaki talked about how she built her splendid career in the US, where the status of women in professional society is still lower than that of men. As the number of medical faculty specialties and students is increasing, and the average score of USMLE is also increasing in the US, they gave suggestions on how to work as a Japanese doctor in the US, showing the advantage of Japanese classes and what we can prepare. Students, who want to work in the US, could get a concrete image of their future, and others were motivated to study English and to think about their careers.
