2018 “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session Series No. 44 held

44th “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session September 5, 2018

In the third FYRM session of academic year 2018 we hosted Dr. Fukuoka. She is a professor in the School of Nursing at University of California San Francisco and an active researcher.
After graduating from Aichi Medical University, College of Nursing, Dr. Fukuoka received her PhD in Nursing from University of California, San Francisco (USCF) in 2003 and completed American Heart Association and National Institutes for Health (NIH) postdoctoral fellowships in 2006. Her program of research focuses on the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes using digital technologies and artificial intelligence. She is also a sought-after research mentor on the UCSF campus.
In this session, she talked about the reasons why she decided to build her career outside Japan and how we should prepare to study abroad. We also discussed the key points to succeed abroad as a researcher. She taught us the importance of “our own strength” and “perseverance”. There were lots of questions from the participants and it was an active session. It was a great opportunity to learn a lot from her strong passion as a researcher.
