～How is the relationship between Japan and the world changing as a result of globalization?～

What is Discussion Café?

In July 2013, TMDU and Waseda University signed an agreement with the primary goal of cooperating to cultivate future global leaders. This will be the seventh gathering of "Discussion Café" under this cooperation.

DCafé provides a rich environment for discussion in English of current controversial topics with students from various backgrounds. This is a fantastic opportunity to network with students in various fields of study from Japan and other countries and practice expressing your opinions in English!

Discussion Topic

Rapid advancements in transportation and information technology have allowed us to easily travel great distances and access information from around the world in real time. As a result, the distance between us is becoming smaller both physically and mentally. This globalization has a great influence on individuals, as it also shapes a variety of fields such as politics, economy, education, science and medicine.

How then is the relationship between Japan and the world changing as a result of globalization? Some say that Japan is not taking a leadership role in issues vital to global society such as climate change and immigration. As a result, the Japanese government has begun a series of initiatives to encourage the growth of globally oriented practices in business, education, and society more broadly. This DCafe will focus on these initiatives, in relation to both accepting foreign peoples and perspectives (Topic 1) and in strengthening the skills Japanese citizens may need to join our future global society (Topic 2).
