～Let’s talk about beauty standards!～

What is Discussion Café?

In July 2013, TMDU and Waseda University signed an agreement with the primary goal of cooperating to cultivate future global leaders. This will be the 14th gathering of "Discussion Café" under this cooperation.

DCafé provides a rich environment for discussion in English of current controversial topics with students from various backgrounds. This is a fantastic opportunity to network with students in various fields of study from Japan and other countries and practice expressing your opinions in English!

Discussion Topic

What do you think makes a person beautiful? “Beauty standards” change over time and differ from culture to culture. Also, everyone has their own standards of beauty, stemming from their upbringing.

There are no absolute standards of beauty because beauty is entirely subjective.

External beauty and aesthetics have a great influence on our lives, and how we view the world around us. Inner beauty is equally important, guiding how we treat others and how we see ourselves.

Then, are there any problems related to beauty in society? What if one certain standard dominates the world?

If you want to practice expressing your thoughts about beauty in English, or discuss interesting topics with students from other universities, then please come and join the ICC English Discussion Cafe!
