～Let’s talk about media literacy!～

What is Discussion Café?

In July 2013, TMDU and Waseda University signed an agreement with the primary goal of cooperating to cultivate future global leaders. This will be the 15th gathering of "Discussion Café" under this cooperation.

DCafé provides a rich environment for discussion in English of current controversial topics with students from various backgrounds. This is a fantastic opportunity to network with students in various fields of study from Japan and other countries and practice expressing your opinions in English!

Discussion Topic

We come across an enormous amount of information via media in our daily lives. Not just TVs and newspapers, which were the primary form of news distribution in the past, but also Internet websites and SNS provide us with overwhelming amounts of information today.

However, do you think all the contents you find in media are true? Is it always helpful that we have more access to information?

In fact, there are many traps in gaining new information. If we do not properly understand the fictional nature of media, we may misunderstand the truth. If we are not ready to accept other values, we may narrow our perspective rather than broaden it even with abundant information.

Would you like to have a discussion about “Media Literacy” with people from various backgrounds who each have their own unique ideas and values?

If you want to meet and discuss with students from other universities or other cultural background, please come and join the Discussion Café!
