2015 HSLP Retreat

On December 20, the second HSLP Retreat was held at TMDU Faculty Lounge on the top floor of M&D Tower. It was attended by 49 students of first through third grades from various schools at TMDU. The primary objectives of this gathering were community building, networking, and goal setting/resetting. There were ample opportunities for the juniors to have networking time with their seniors, and for the seniors to share and reflect on their achievements in HSLP. During the three-hour retreat organized by second- and third-year core members, Fumiya, Sumiko, Ryosuke, Keisuke, Yuri and Kohei, students were able to participate in many activities. These included group discussions concerning LGBT from a social, philosophical, and governmental viewpoint; senior HSLP classmen giving presentations and feedback time concerning their overseas program experiences; watching the first-place winning 2015 Go Global Japan presentation given by second-year students; and having the chance to network with Dr. Mukaigawara, a TMDU alumnus who kindly shared part of his valuable vacation time to talk about his school-time experiences as well as current work situation at Okinawa Prefectural Chubu Hospital with the students. At the end, four randomly selected first-year students shared their feelings with everyone about their first HSLP retreat. One of them said, “I was surprised at the second- and third-year students speaking and leadership abilities. This made me realize the necessity to work even harder.” Hearing this comment, it appears that this retreat was a big success.
