2015 “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session Series No. 23 held

23rd “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session February 3, 2016

In our 23rd “Find-Your-Role-Model session”, we invited Dr. Matthew Weinstock, M.D., who is a Chief Resident of Internal Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the US. He was born in Pittsburgh, U.S.A., earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and a Doctor of Medicine from Columbia University. Previous to his current position he served as an Internal Medicine Resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, then as a Hematology/Oncology fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital.

After Dr. Weinstock shared his career including his medical education and clinical experiences, he answered a wide variety of questions about career alternative, the key to effective and practical guidance as a chief resident, and the blend of research and clinical practice. His answers included several points that prompted us to think about an ideal image of a doctor, such as the importance of earning liberal arts majors at undergraduate university in the US or the importance of sharing fundamental frameworks for approach to actual patients among medical students or doctors. Dr. Weinstock’s concrete description about how and why he chose Hematology/Oncology as his specialty, based on his academic interest and affection for patients, helped us a lot in considering our future career paths.
