For the 53rd Find-Your-Role-Model session on February 3rd, we invited Mr. Teppei Sakano, CEO of Allm Co., Ltd.

Mr. Sakano established Skill Up Japan Co., Ltd after graduating from Waseda University and changed the company’s name to Allm after he entered the medical ICT business. Mr. Sakano not only develops medical device programs but also markets them in 18 countries. JOIN, a medical communication application system for medical professionals, is the first insurance application software in Japan, and is currently becoming a de facto emergency medical care app in partnership with global companies such as GE Healthcare, Philips, Siemens, and Eisai. Mr. Sakano is also engaged in the development of a new business for medical data, medical equipment and medical corporation management based on communication applications and big data.

In this session, Mr. Sakano shared with us his medical IT platform, and discussed a clinicians’ role in the medical IT field. During the question and answer period, topics extended to the possibility for big data business, as well as to the economy and marketing, which are rarely shared elsewhere. It was a fruitful time for medical students who have less opportunity to see the medical field from a business perspective.

At the end of the session, Mr. Sakano told the students that IT could be the strongest weapon for medical workers since it can provide many people with efficient measures for healthcare and that students should take advantage of every opportunity. Throughout the session, there has been a constant stream of discussion and Mr. Sakano provided precise and clear answers to the questions he received. This gave all the students a deeper insight into their own future career possibilities.
