2025 Global Communication Workshop (GCW)

The GCW has been held four times every June since 2013. This negotiation workshop was created to give first-year undergraduate students a chance to gauge their English communication skills early on in their studies and set concrete study goals.

Negotiation is not an easy skill, especially in a second language. So, it took a lot of courage for students to join this event, which is based on a citizen led polio vaccination boycott in Northern Nigeria, and play one of six stakeholder roles:
the World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Nigerian Ministry of Health, the Kano State Government, or the Local Community Organization leaders.

This year’s participants were from Science Tokyo’s Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Engineering, five Kanto high schools, and select international graduate students from Yushima Campus. They all worked hard to communicate their side of the negotiation and come to an amicable agreement on restarting the vaccination program.

We hope these students continue to join university events and work on improving their communication skills throughout their time at Science Tokyo.
