Waseda/TMDU Discussion Café 5
“How will genetic testing change society?”
What is Discussion Café?
In July 2013, TMDU and Waseda University signed an agreement with the primary goal of cooperating to cultivate future global leaders. This will be the fifth gathering of "Discussion Café" under this cooperation.
DCafé provides a rich environment for discussion in English of current controversial topics with students from various backgrounds. This is a fantastic opportunity to network with students in various fields of study from Japan and other countries and practice expressing your opinions in English!
Discussion Topic
"How will genetic testing change society?"
What do you know about your “genes”? Today, individuals have easier access to their genetic information than you might think. But are new technologies for genetic testing and manipulation a blessing or a danger? Is it really beneficial to know about your genes in detail? Are they accurate predictors of disease? Are there ethical problems with examining the genes of unborn children? These questions concern us all as citizens of a global society.
Please join us for a spirited discussion of this topic!
