32nd “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session (8th in 2016 Series)

We have been holding a series of events called “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session to provide students with opportunities to interact with TMDU alumni and worldwide leaders in health sciences. Through this roundtable-type, relaxed atmosphere event, we hope students will be able to find their role models in order to facilitate their career development in becoming future global leaders.

In the eighth FYRM session of academic year 2016 we will be hosting Dr. Noriyuki Kasahara, a 1986 TMDU School of Medicine and 1993 Doctorate in Endocrinology alumnus. After graduation, he went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Endocrinology from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He has conducted research at many well-known U.S. universities including UCSF, University of Southern California, and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is currently a Professor at the University of Miami and visiting professor/ adjunct professor at universities in England, Japan and the U.S., and Medical Director of a clinical transplant testing laboratory. This session will be carried out in a round-table discussion format, and will cover the following points. Everyone is welcome to join us in a hearty discussion.

  • The trigger that led him to choose a global career
  • The differences in research environments in Japan and in foreign countries
  • Important points of successful international collaboration
  • Difficulties faced working in an overseas laboratory and how he overcame them

    TMDU Medical School Graduate Dr. Kasahara has been a very active researcher in the U.S. for thirty years as well as teaching and serving as a clinical lab director at overseas universities. Please join us to learn more about international collaboration, and what lead to his exciting career path!

    The guest will share his career experiences; then move onto the roundtable discussion.
