35th “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session (2nd in 2017 Series)

We have been holding a series of events called “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session to provide students with opportunities to interact with TMDU alumni and worldwide leaders in health sciences. Through this roundtable-type, relaxed atmosphere event, we hope students will be able to find their role models in order to facilitate their career development in becoming future global leaders.

In the second FYRM session of academic year 2017 we will be hosting Dr. Yuya Hagiwara, an Associate Fellowship Program Director and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Palliative Care, University of Iowa from July of this year. After graduating from University of Yamanashi, Faculty of Medicine his work history includes: Michigan State University, chief resident in Family Medicine; University of South Dakota, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine; and University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Geriatrics Fellowship and Assistant Professor in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Recently, he received a Master of Academic Medicine degree from University of South California. This session will be carried out in a round-table discussion format, and will cover the following points. Everyone is welcome to join us in a hearty discussion.

  • Why he chose to work overseas
  • How he prepared to work abroad while in university
  • What led him to be a family physician
  • Differences in health care between Japan and the USA
  • Vision of his future career path
  • Progress of family medicine around the world

    Dr. Hagiwara has an interest in family medicine, geriatrics, palliative medicine as well as medical education. Anyone who is interested in his career and learning more about his specialty, please join!

    Discussion style

    The guest will share his career experiences; then move onto the roundtable discussion.
