42nd “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session (1st in 2018 Series)

We have been holding a series of events called “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session to provide students with opportunities to interact with TMDU alumni and worldwide leaders in health sciences. Through this roundtable-type, relaxed atmosphere event, we hope students will be able to find their role models in order to facilitate their career development in becoming future global leaders.

In the first FYRM session of the 2018 academic year, we will be hosting Dr. Oyama who received his MD and PhD from Hokkaido University and an MBA from Globis University in 2010. Specializing in cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Oyama was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, part of Harvard University (2004-2006), and began working in the pharmaceutical industry in 2006. He has worked overseas, spending time in Singapore while Medical Affairs Director for AstraZeneca (2011-2013) and in Switzerland with Novartis Pharma K.K. (2015-2017). Currently, Dr. Oyama is Head of Medical Division for Novartis in Tokyo.

This session will be carried out in a round-table discussion format, and will cover the following points:

  • What lead to working abroad at Brigham & Women's Hospital
  • Reasons and benefits of acquiring an MBA degree
  • Advantages of working in the pharmaceutical field with MD/MBA degrees
  • The similarities/differences between Japan and the US in career selection for doctors

Everyone is welcome to join us for a hearty discussion!
