We have been holding a series of events called “Find-Your-Role-Model” Session to provide students with opportunities to interact with TMDU alumni and worldwide leaders in health sciences. Through this roundtable-type, relaxed atmosphere event, we hope students will be able to find their role models in order to facilitate their career development in becoming future global leaders.

In the third FYRM session of academic year 2018 we will be hosting Dr. Fukuoka. After graduating from Aichi Medical University, College of Nursing, Dr. Fukuoka received her PhD in Nursing from University of California, San Francisco in 2003 and completed American Heart Association and National Institutes for Health (NIH) postdoctoral fellowships in 2006. Her program of research focuses on the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes using digital technologies and artificial intelligence. Dr. Fukuoka has been continuously funded by the NIH, National Science Foundation, and American Heart Association over the past 12 years. She is also a sought-after research mentor on the UCSF campus.

This session will be carried out in a round-table discussion format, and will cover the following points:

• Why she specialized her current field
• Reasons for going abroad to build her research and academic career
• Preparation for seeking a training opportunity or a position in the U.S. or other countries
• Tips for building a successful research and academic career in the U.S or other countries
